Types of Sexual Harassment
There are several types of Sexual Harassment:
- verbal: sexual jokes, teasing or phone calls
- physical: touching, pinching, cornering, leaning over, actual or attempted sexual assault and rape
- non-verbal: sexual looks, gestures, letters, sms’s, emails or materials (often pornographic)
- secondary harassment: a victim is sexually harassed by more than one person because she is seen as an “easy score”
- victimisation: victim is punished or intimidated because she has laid a charge of sexual harassment
- quid pro quo: offers for a date or sex in exchange for a raise, job promotion, increase in grade, etc. Generally the harasser is someone in a position of authority
- a poisoned or hostile environment: environment where there is lots of sexual harassment that makes some people within that environment, uncomfortable
- sexual favouritism: person who is sexual compliant gets special treatments, promotions at work, etc., while the other person does not get promotions because he or she is not sexually compliant.
